The One About Moving Out on My Own
July 21, 2004

hi kids,

so i've finally moved out On My Own.
meaning i live alone (well, with Toonces Whorecat) and pay all the bills.
it's pretty great except the bill part.

when people found out i was going to move into my own place they came out of the woodwork offering me all kinds of free stuff. how cool is that? so far, i haven't paid for a single piece of furniture.

and i got the curtains for free (from a dead man's house. neat!)
and two mirrors
two medicine cabinets
two regular cabinets (one with the stove light/fan awning thing)
carpet
shutters/mini blinds
two kitchen tables
5 light fixtures
1 ceiling fan
rug
toilet (practically new)(from the dead man's house)
1 la-z-boy
1 interesting sitting chair
3 end tables
2 rolly shelves
glasses, dishes, silverware
pots and pans
microwave (from the Holy Comforter House breakroom!)

so really, all i have in the joint is several weeks of hard work, some building materials, and brand new appliances (stove/oven and 'fridge). the rest? free.

people love giving me things. i think that it makes them feel go to help me out AND i think they just like getting rid of all their shit that's been piling up or in their storage building. they see their old rug rolled up in the corner of thier garage and say, "gosh, it doesn't match a damn thing in my house, but i can't throw it away. maybe jaimie could use it."

and so i take the rug off their hands, sight unseen, and when i get it back to my place and see that hmm, that's kinda nasty, i have no problem with throwing it on the street curb for the city to come pick up.

so see, the person who gave me the rug feels good 'cos they gave me something AND it unclutters the garage. 2 birds. one stone. and i feel good because, hey, people give me things! and hey, i get rid of the crap for them. i'm doing them a favor. they were never going to use that rug again. it was just taking up space.

next week's epitomb:

jaimie "i hate people" pickle
